From the The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald, first published Sunday 23rd Dec 2007.
An explosion that injured one man and blew the roof off a Swindon block of flats earlier today is being investigated by firefighters.
Emergency services rushed to Stamford Close in Toothill at 7.20am this morning.
The fire, which was caused by the explosion, has now been extinguished but the blast has destroyed the roof and much of the first floor of the building.
Nearby flats were evacuated and one man, who was taken to hospital, has now been transferred to the burns unit at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.
Police said the cause of the blast was unknown and a full investigation will begin tomorrow morning to determine a cause.
The injured man's condition is said to be comfortable.
