From the The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald, first published Sunday 23rd Dec 2007.
This Christmas, the Royal Mail will deliver more than 160 million cards, letters and packets every day.
Why not save some money and help the environment by donating the money you usually spend on cards to your local charity. Or why not try sending e-cards to completely cut your waste.
If you still want to send cards this Christmas, try to buy ones made from 100% recycled materials and reuse your old ones to make gift tags for next years gifts.
Councillor Peter Evans, Environment Champion at Kennet District Council said; "We can all help reduce the amount of waste we create this Christmas by making small, easy changes. Buying recycled Christmas cards and then recycling yours after the New Year or reusing them for gift tags ensures that we all complete the recycling loop and keep valuable materials out of landfill."
