Asda submits supermarket plan

From the Wiltshire Times, first published Friday 14th Dec 2007.

SUPERMARKET giant Asda has taken its first official step towards opening a store in Melksham, which will create 300 jobs.

The chain has formally submitted a planning application to build a 28,500 sq ft store on land off the A350 at the West of Midland Farmers roundabout.

It would replace the current Countrywide Farmers premises, which will relocate to another part of town.

West Wiltshire District Council will now examine the plans for a supermarket, which will stock both food and non-food goods and the George clothing line.

There would also be a 250-space car park and an access entry point from the A350.

If planning permission is granted the store could open in 2009.
