Newsmen bid to make the headlines

From the Wiltshire Times, first published Friday 14th Dec 2007.

Premier Division leaders and trophy favourites Westbury Rangers A hope to lock horns with Bradford News at Meadow Lane, with the winners looking to join Second Division Cooper-Avon in the fourth round draw of the presstoprint-sponsored Eric Hughes Memorial Knockout Cup.

From the seven third round ties that have be scheduled to date only one have been completed and, instead going into the game looking to make up the eight quarter-finalists, the winners of a the all-Premier Division clash will become only the second side to book their place in the last eight of the competition.

Westbury Rangers, who defeated Winsley and Chippenham Sports and Social Club in the earlier rounds, will start odds-on favourites to beat the newsmen, but Mark Hurkett's team, who narrowly lost the league match between the teams earlier this season, will believe that it could be his team's turn to beat a Rangers side who they have a good record against.

Bradford News, who beat North Star A and Corsham Park Rangers, to set up the date with Rangers, will be aware that nine top flight sides have already bitten the dust in the competition and it could be the year of a complete outsider to lift the cup.

Former cup favourites Corsham Centre and Biddestone Social have fallen by the wayside and it could be the turn of Rangers to suffer the same fate.

The newsmen are more than capable of causing an upset but they will have to lift their game to another level to achieve their goal. But if they get it right on the day it could see Rangers' dream of cup success ended for another season.
