Police hunt mobile phone thieves

From the The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald, first published Friday 14th Dec 2007.

Devizes police are on the lookout for two men who stole expensive high-tech phones from the town branch of Carphone Warehouse this afternoon.

At around 3.30pm this afternoon, the two men entered the shop in the Market Place and asked to see an expensive iPod touch phone, which retails at £269, and a Sony Ericsson K850i, which sells for over £300.

Branch manager Steven Harbour said: "They knew what they were looking for. They had this story about their girlfriends wanting these phones but they wanted to check if they were right for them.

"When we put them on the counter they jumped grabbed them and ran.

"We heard later that there got stopped by a traffic checkpoint and the woman driver was arrested. The two blokes ran off. Who said chivalry was dead?"

Wiltshire police confirmed they were looking for two men, one described as tall, skinny and with ginger hair. The 25-year-old woman driver, who is not local, was arrested and taken to Melksham custody unit.

Police would be grateful for any information leading to the arrest of the two men on 0845 408 7000.
