Crayford wins Calne Christmas match

WITH the river in flood, the Calne Christmas match was switched to Sword and Sabre Lakes on Sunday.

Paul Crayford, of Calne, carried off top prize with an all carp catch weighing 15lb 7oz taken on legered worm.

Mark Wooldridge, from Chippenham, snatched second prize with a mixed catch of roach, perch and skimmers weighing 7lb 7oz, taken on pole fished red maggots. Gary Dodson, of Calne, was a close third with a mixed catch of carp and roach weighing 7lb, taken on pole fished red maggots.

Other placings: 4 Martin Dolman, Calne, 5lb 14oz; 5 Kevin Moore, Alton Barnes, 3lb 13oz; 6 Tim Carr, Calne, 3lb 4oz.

Bathampton match switched to canal

THE flooded Avon caused the Bathampton open Christmas match to be switched to the Kennet and Avon Canal from Darlington to Limpley Stoke where roach and skimmers made up the bulk of the weights.

Top spot went to Sean Townsend, of Bathampton, with a roach and skimmer catch weighing 11lb 11oz, which included a fine roach of 2lb, taken on pole fished punched bread.

Andrew Ankers, of Frome, took second prize with an all-roach catch weighing 8lb 9oz, taken on pole-fished punched bread. He was followed by Bathampton match secretary Kevin Dicks with a roach and perch catch weighing 8lb 7oz, taken alternating with pole-fished worm and casters.

Other placings: 4 Martin Rayet, Bathampton, 7lb 15oz; 5 Gary O'Shea, Thatchers, 7lb 10oz; 6 Jerry Pocock, King Billy, 5lb 10oz.
