From the The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald, first published Wednesday 12th Dec 2007.
POSTMISTRESS Yvonne Collingwood has run the village post office in Lea for 12 years.
The 68-year-old has provided a valuable service to many villagers in that time.
Mrs Collingwood opens the post office, on Pembroke Green, between 9am and 12.30pm six days a week, and receives a stream of regulars.
She said the loss of the service would have a big effect on some residents.
"I think it's wrong and I just feel so sorry for the people that have supported me all this time and those that won't be able to get into town," she said.
John Armstrong, of Pembroke Green, said: "I think it's disgusting. If we lose that and our means of transport we won't be able to get into Malmesbury - there's only about four buses a day.
"It will be so inconvenient and I think the little village post office is a great thing.
"We get our pension, papers and stamps there and it's a crying shame if it goes."
Regular customer David Harrold, of Pembroke Green, added: "It's so convenient for people like us, who pop in there for money and those sorts of things.
"It's in a private property, so the Post Office won't be able to make any money by selling it."
