Crash closes motorway

Emergency services were called to the motorway this morning following a car crash.

Hundreds of drivers are stuck in massive tailbacks near Junction 17 at Chippenham.

Police have closed the eastbound carriageway and lane three of the westbound carriageway and are urging drivers to slow down when approaching the crash scene.

Firefighters are currently working to cut a victim out of a red car which appears to have crashed through the barrier on the central reservation.

Delays are expected to continue for at least another half an hour.
