Parking charges scrapped for event

From the Wiltshire Times, first published Saturday 24th Nov 2007.

CAR parking charges will be waived in Corsham for the town's Christmas Lights switch-on.

North Wiltshire District Council has agreed to make the pay and display car parks in the centre of the town free from 3pm on Friday December 7 ready for the switch on event starting from 5.30pm.

Council chairman Allan Bosley said: "I am very pleased that the district council has agreed to free parking from 3pm.

"We have encouraged local businesses to stay open late on the evening and this would be a perfect opportunity for residents to pick up some original Christmas gifts before watching the switch on."

Half an hour prior to the switch on, Corsham Windband will be playing festive music accompanied by the church choirs singing carols.

GWR's Jez and Roo will help the winner of the Christmas Card Competition, nine-year-old Ruby Roberts, switch on the lights.
