From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Saturday 21st Jan 2006.
SHOULD Lee Peacock's goals lead Town to League One safety then the County Ground faithful will owe a large debt of gratitude to former No 9 Sam Parkin.
Iffy Onuora's new striker has revealed that a recommendation from an old hero helped him sign on the dotted line as he looks to add an extra spark to the fight.
Peacock, 29, simply cannot believe Town's current plight and league position and is determined to do something about it that's if he can get into the side!
But why Swindon rather than league leaders Southend or Paul Merson's Walsall?
It seems an old Town hero helped him make his decision.
Former Sheffield Wednesday colleague Adam Proudlock has been plying his trade at Ipswich, Parkin's current club.
Peacock made Proudlock aware that Swindon was one of his options and that information was passed to Parkin.
"The word I got back was get yourself down there, you'll love it, they're brilliant.
"If I go part way to filling his (Parkin's) boots I'd be happy," said Peacock.
The former Bristol City man is excited by the challenge which lies ahead.
He said: "I thought it was a good opportunity for me.
"From the outside looking in I can't believe the position they're in, looking at the players on board.
"Patrick Collins said the same when he came back to Wednesday. There's a good vibe, a good sense of togetherness.
All the lads seem to get on, there's no arguing.
"In my experience that togetherness stands a team in good stead.
"It's a great club and I'm looking forward to getting down to business."
He points to the effect a couple of new faces have had at Hillsborough during January and hopes the same will be true at the County Ground.
He said: "A couple of new faces can bring that little spark back. That's what it did at Wednesday and they've won their last three games."
Peacock is confident he can score the goals to help pull Town clear but isn't expecting to simply walk into the side.
He joked: "I'm hoping I won't be getting in for another month because it means we'll be picking up points.
"Seriously, the team has been on a good run until last week and you have to earn the right to start."
Even a bit part today would satisfy him, just to dip his toes into the County Ground waters.
He said: "It's this time in your career when you're meant to be showing your worth.
"I just want to get things going again, get my confidence back and that five-yard sharpness."
And what of the man who suggested it would be a good move?
Parkin, recovering from a broken ankle at Ipswich said: "Lee was someone who always worried us when we played Bristol City. I hope he enjoys success with Swindon."
