IT turns out that Robins, as well as camels, are good at conserving water. That was the message from Swindon Town players at the Robins' training ground yesterday, as they launched a new partnership with Thames Water.
Players Rory Fallon, Jerel Ifil and Ricky Shakes posed with toothbrushes to highlight a new campaign, which has seen the club save millions of litres of water.
Defender Ifil said: "We have a water conservation system in place at my home, so I'm aware of how important it is to save water. I try not to put too much water in the kettle, and don't fill baths too deep."
Striker Fallon said: "I probably use the most water of the three of us, because I stay in the shower the longest.
"I don't usually use many water appliances at home, though, so I suppose I already limit the amount of water I use."
Thames Water spokesman Robert Markwell said: "We contacted the club to see if we could test their water systems.
"We looked at the club's use of water, and then installed blocks in the cisterns and rerouted the urinals. In total, we have reduced the annual use of water by 12 million litres. In return, the club will be advertising water conservation techniques in the match programme and at the stadium."
Town manager Iffy Onuora said: "We are delighted to help raise awareness of saving water among our supporters and visitors. It is important for everyone to take responsibility not to waste water. By encouraging our supporters to take up water-saving tips and devices we could help to save a huge amount of water every year."
