NOT being quick enough on the buzzer defeated Cirencester's Renault dealership, Bridges.
They had topped a Renault league to send a team from its service department to compete in the company's southern quiz heat against two other dealerships in the region.
Each year, Renault runs a national competition with dealerships qualifying for regional heats by maintaining impressive overall servicing, sales and customer satisfaction performances.
A team from the Tetbury Road dealership went through to the Southampton quiz based on their six-month performance.
Three teams were competing for one of only eight places in the national Platinum Dealer of the Year final in Oxford by answering fingers-on-the-buzzer questions as well as detailed maintenance and technical questions.
In a hotly-contested Southern Area final, Bridges was pipped at the post to the top spot by the Aldershot team but managed to stay ahead of the Isle of Wight.
Captain and service reception manager Tracey Harris said: "It was great fun! We knew the answers but just weren't quick enough on the buzzer."
