Cricketers hit Town for six!

CHIPPENHAM & DISTRICT SUNDAY: Corsham Cricket Club began 2006 in style, hitting Sherston Town for six in the Auto Business Solutions Ltd, Chippenham & District Sunday League Premier Division.

Veterans John Freegard and Dave Kilmurray hit doubles, Paul Southway and Graham Ford each adding strikes.

Maud Heath Sports took the lead against Winsley via Darren Holcombe before an injury left them with only 10 players, allowing Winsley to gain the upper hand and run out 5-2 victors. Holcombe added a second for Sports.

In Division One, Holt defeated Christian Malford 3-0, Tom Pang scoring twice and Olly Gee the other.

Spencer Sports had to dig deep against Potterne FC to keep their unbeaten 10-match unbeaten run intact, James Taylor earning a 1-1 draw after Steve House's earlier strike.

Kingfisher FC stay in second place in Division Two after beating White Horse FC 8-3, Marcus Young scoring a treble, Luke Stoneham and Nick Still (two each) and a Craig Pocklington own goal making up the tally.

Chris Sims managed a brace for the Horse.

It was a red-letter day for The Crown Devizes' Simon Drewitt, who celebrated his 30th birthday by slamming in a hat-trick in his side's 9-0 thumping of Chippenham United RAOB.

However Drewitt was outscored by strike partner Darren Thorpe who struck five, Robert Hannah's first for the club making up the tally.

Sir Audley's Arms are the new leaders of Division Three, their 3-1 home win against North Star B, coupled with AFC Calne's 1-1 draw with Wheatsheaf seeing them into pole position.

James McLaughlin, Stuart White and Nick Gapper scored for the Arms, with Ronnie Kallmeier replying.

Aaron Clegg gave AFC Calne the lead, with Wheatsheaf's Gary Wootton hitting back.

Bar OC lost 3-0 to Rowde Dynamos, Tom Paget's penalty, Martin Robinson and Luke Enderby doing the damage.

Division Four polesitters Southgate Inn beat Chippenham West End 8-1, Julian Alexander (2), David Lloyd, Nick Taylor, Dave Hopkins, a Chris Wallis own goal plus first goals for William Kibby and an Elliot Williams penalty making up the tally.

  • IN THE Wiltshire Sunday Cup, Dog & Fox Ashley were thumped 6-1 by Greyhound, despite taking the lead.

    But Corsham Centre thrashed Swindon Sunday League side AFC Kemdent 6-0.
