Moreton strikes to earn Town a point

From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Tuesday 10th Jan 2006.

GIRLS FOOTBALL: CLARE Moreton's late equaliser earned Swindon Town Ladies a point from a 3-3 draw at Plymouth.

Town, who welcomed back Holly Burton and handed Lisa Coe a first start, took the lead when Katherien Reid set up Moreton.

The lead lasted just two minutes before Plymouth equalised from a free-kick.

The visitors failed to deal with the set-piece and Laura Perr coolly slotted home.

On 20 minutes Plymouth went 2-1 up after a mix-up in the Swindon defence, Kim Reeves turning the ball into her own net.

Swindon got back on terms in the 50th minute when Michelle Rich placed a perfect shot past the oncoming keeper.

But they fell behind once again in the 65th minute from another free kick, Katie Middleton capitalising for the home side.

However, Moreton levelled to earn Town their point.

  • SPITFIRES are still top of South West Division One after a 5-2 victory over Cirencester.

Zofie Stepien set up Hayley Huckin for the opener, but Cirencester soon levelled.

However, Spitfires regained the advantage almost immediately when Vicky Taylor found the net.

Five minutes before half-time Taylor scored her second, following up Huckin's initial shot.

Ciren replied early in the second half, but Mel Bristow latched onto a through ball to make it four with her 10th of the season.

Huckin rounded off the scoring from a Katie Gumm cross.
