Radio rave

From the archive, first published Wednesday 28th Sep 2005.

I WRITE in response to J Turner's September 21 letter. SBC does not claim to be perfect but during its short lifetime (two weeks) it has produced some fantastic shows.

It is a learning project where people learn by doing; learn by putting in hours of effort and expertise on live radio and tackling the vast amount of tasks needed behind the scenes. Not office hours but 24/7.

I have worked in community work for nearly 30 years and that experience tells me that SCB is a voluntary group that can hold its head up high in its values and goals (access for usually unheard local voices), its educational function (training people of all ages in radio), and its pioneering risk-taking in being at the cutting edge of local community issues.

Tune in to 106.8fm. Contributions and constructive comments welcomed.
