Airfield is run in a safe way

From the archive, first published Saturday 17th Sep 2005.

I fly a microlight from Redlands Airfield and feel personally affected by recent writers' comments.

Nearly all microlight airfields operate under some sort of noise abatement procedures and microlight pilots are well used to operating their aircraft within them, Redlands being no exception of course.

I have been at the airfield several times when parachuting has been taking place and have never observed more than one jump plane being used, and I am sure the airfield movement log will confirm this.

The very fact that Redlands Airfield still operates must surely mean Swindon Council is convinced it is being operated within its planning constraints.

Surely it is time therefore for the small minority of protestors to accept this fact, and to understand that the airfield is operated in a safe, responsible and considerate manner.

All Joe and Sarah Smith are trying to do is to provide an income for their family, surely they cannot be denied that?
