Making sweet music

FANS of Wiltshire singer Jamie Cullum do not have long to wait to get hold of his new album.

But an expected collaboration between the jazz singer and Swindon musician and songwriter Andy Partridge never made the final cut.

Jamie's new album, entitled Catching Tales is released on September 26.

The first single from the new album, called Get Your Way, is released on September 19.

It was reported in April that Jamie was collaborating with Andy, on local band XTC, on three of the songs for the new album, but the record company UCJ yesterday revealed that those tunes never made the final track listing.

A spokesman said: "There were so many choices for the album as Jamie collaborated with several different artists.

"I'm afraid to say that these songs never made it to the final track listing of 15 songs."

The 25-year-old singer, who lives in Hullavington, has several connections to Swindon.

He used to perform in Swindon as an up and coming singer and his father runs a watercooler firm in Kembrey Business Park.

Andy, of Old Town, Swindon, was not available for comment yesterday.

His band XTC was formed in the town in the 1970s, and went on to become a major force in the early 1980s with hits such as Making Plans For Nigel and Senses Working Overtime.

The band's debut album, White Music, reached number 38 in the charts and in August 1979, the Drums and Wires album got to number 34.

Although XTC scored a number of hits in the singles and album charts during the early years of their career, they have never had mass appeal.
