Small is good for students

From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Monday 21st Feb 2005.

WHILE I do not want to use this page to engage in a slanging match with anyone, I feel I have to defend myself against Mr Margetts' response (EA, February 11) to my letter.

If he had read my letter he would be able to see that at no time did I suggest that the children attending Freshbrook School now were anonymous.

I actually said that they were no longer anonymous, and, secondly, I made no mention at all about children spending time outside the headteacher's office.

I was simply saying I felt that Mr Luke's comments were not fair to either the parents or children of Freshbrook School and I was amazed that he had been able to air them publicly.

My second point was that I want Windmill Hill School to stay as it is because I feel my daughter would not benefit from being in a 420-pupil school, no matter what technology was available.

If Mr Margetts is in favour of a merger I take it he's seen a 420-pupil school in action and would be happy for his children to be part of it?
