GAZETTE & HERALD: TRAFFIC came to a standstill at Quemerford in Calne during Friday rush hour when a tree chipper came loose from a Ford Transit van and collided with a lorry.
The A4 was closed completely for 45 minutes while the wreckage of the tree chipper was recovered and the lorry was moved off the road.
Only one lane of the A4 was then opened until 11.48am, when the road was finally cleared.
The lorry driver, from Gloucester, was unhurt despite the funnel of the chipper hitting the driver's side of the windscreen.
A fire crew from Calne also attended the scene to clear up oil. PC Dave Townsend from Corsham Traffic Department said: "It could have been nasty but fortunately it wasn't."
