Time to Pay!

From the archive, first published Saturday 26th Nov 2005.

AARON Brown will endeavour to make Andy Ritchie pay for turning his back on him just days ago should he be handed his Swindon Town debut today.

Limited first-team opportunities at Queens Park Rangers mean he is eager to start the new year with a fresh challenge and his first port of call to that end was Barnsley last week.

The 25-year-old played and scored in a training match for the Tykes, only to be told that he wasn't ready for first-team football in Ritchie's eyes.

Brown holds no grudge but admits there is a delicious irony about the opponents he will face should Iffy Onuora turn to him today.

And having filled the role of `villain' against Town by netting the winner for Bristol City in a 2-1 win two years ago, he is looking forward to getting on the right side of the County Ground faithful.

He said: "I played in a trial game for Barnsley last week and actually scored for them so it'll be a bit weird in a way.

"Iffy hasn't really asked me much about them and I probably couldn't tell him much anyway.

"I'm just hoping to be involved and to help the team get three points against Barnsley."

A broken leg and a large squad at Loftus Road have hampered Brown's first team opportunities and he is desperate for some action.

Barnsley proved a dead end and he is hoping their loss very much proves to be Swindon's gain.

He said: "I haven't been featuring for QPR nearly enough for my liking and so when Iffy came in for me I jumped at the chance.

"I broke my leg and was out for 14 months and I've always been playing catch-up since then. This year was my first `proper' season again.

"I think coming down here is going to do me the world of good.

"I've played against Swindon a few times and am familiar with a couple of the lads. I know Christian Roberts and Tony Thorpe from City. Robbo hasn't changed!

"I just want to come down here, have a good go at it and see what happens at the end.

"I'm looking around at as many options as I can for January.

"I'm 25 and I need to be playing. If Swindon could offer me that then I'd have to look at it."

As for that goal at Ashton Gate? He hopes it'll be a case of `Oh Aaron Brown, used to play for City but he's alright now'.

He said: "That was a long, long time ago so we'll forget about that."
