Mercy mission takes to the air

From the archive, first published Saturday 26th Nov 2005.

BROADCASTER Brian Barber is getting ready to fly to Nigeria next month to set up a network of radio stations.

The aid worker from Lydiard Millicent helps countries ravaged by war establish a sense of routine.

The 58-year-old, who works for Edinburgh-based charity Mercy Corps, has visited many of the world's trouble spots, including Uganda, Liberia, Rwanda, Libya and Oman.

He said: "This one is a brief visit. Like previous trips, I'll be helping to install radio equipment."

He flies out on December 9 and returns a fortnight later.
