Holders see off Bassett

From the archive, first published Tuesday 15th Nov 2005.

WOOTTON BASSETT Town crashed out of the Wiltshire Senior Cup at the first attempt beaten 3-0 away at holders Corsham Town.

Corsham put Bassett under considerable pressure early on but could not finish a number of good chances.

However they finally broke the deadlock on 39 minutes as a Dave Hopkins free-kick came back off the bar, Russell Lodge's shot was blocked before Jerad O'Pray slotted the ball home at the far post.

Corsham continued to make chances in the second period but were again unable to finish, with Toby Colbourne failing to convert two one-on-one chances.

They sealed the game with two goals in the last five minutes as Gary Blackwood rammed home a loose ball to double the lead in the 87th minute before Colin Towler headed home from a Hopkins' free kick in injury time.
