SHOPPERS in Swindon are to be invited to add their name to a petition to protect one of Swindon's favourite beauty spots.
Save Coate campaigners will be running an information stall outside BhS in The Parade on Saturday, from 9.45am until 4.30pm.The group claim many people are still not fully aware about the plans to build 1,800 new houses, industrial premises and university buildings on the site.
People will be invited to write to Swindon planners and add their name to a growing list of nearly 26,000 who want to see the area protected.
Jean Saunders, spokeswoman for the Save Coate Coalition, said: "We are still calling for a kilometre wide no-go area next to Coate Water to protect the nature reserve and the rural setting of the country park."
"It is surprising how many Swindonians still have not even heard about the proposals.
"We aim to put that right."
Passers-by will be able to pick up Save Coate badges and window stickers from the stall to display and show their support for the campaign.
