Muffin scoops top prize in doggy beauty pageant

MAGIC Muffin is officially the country's most beautiful bitch after taking a top prize in a national beauty contest for dogs.

A rosette was awarded for her success as one of five of the category winners at the Discover Dogs Show, organised by the Kennel Club, in Earls Court, London, at the weekend.

Muffin had been nominated for the award after her owners, Brenda and Roger Allen from Highworth, entered their prize pet as a joke.

As winner of the Beautiful Bitch Award, the majestic mongrel was automatically put forward for the grand final awards and came runner-up.

Muffin saw off 19 other canine hopefuls, much to the Allens' surprise.

"We were both thrilled but utterly gobsmacked when she won," said Roger, 74.

"Of course we always thought she stood a chance but you never really think it will happen to you. She certainly got lots of treats that night."

The competition was held for all types of breed and crossbreed.

Muffin's appeal may stem from the fact that she has inherited crossbreed features of Border, Yorkie and Norfolk terriers.

Other category prizes were given for the rescue dog award, show stoppers and a look-alike award for dogs most-like famous people.

"Muffin's a very pretty little thing, She hasn't a malicious bone in her body and she'll lick you to death if she could. She's our pride and joy," added Roger.
