POLICE are stepping up their search for a Swindon mother and her six-month-old baby son who have been missing for ten days.
Shazier Imam, also known by the surnames Mahmood and Begum, has not been seen since she left her home in Manchester Road, with her son Hassan Mahmood on October 21.
She told her husband she was going out and has not made contact since.
Police say they are keeping an open mind about the circumstances of the disappearance but they do not believe any thing untoward has happened to them.
DC Bev Pitchford said: "It could be that she has run away. We don't know.
"Her family are upset, they are naturally worried."
Police have been keen to reassure Shazier, who is believed to be in her 20s, that they have no intention of separating her from her son.
The woman is understood to have connections in Birmingham, Blackburn, Bristol and London.
DC Pitchford said: "It may be that Shazier is concerned that once she is found that she will be separated from Hassan. We would like to reassure her that this will not happen.
"We would like to impress upon Shazier, that her whereabouts, once we have verified them, will be treated in utmost confidence."
Shazier left home with a green Mothercare pushchair.
Police say it is also possible that she has a red plastic car seat for the baby.
She is described as 5ft 4ins tall, of medium build, with long black hair and light brown marks on both cheeks below her eyes.
When she left her home she was wearing light brown trousers and a light brown top.
Anyone with any information about their whereabouts should call Swindon police on 01793 528111.
