FA VASE: MAYBE John Fisher enjoyed his Asda adventure more than he's letting on after continuing his shopping spree this week.
The Highworth boss spent last Saturday in a supermarket instead of a dugout after quitting the top job at Highworth.
That frightening glimpse into what his future weekends might hold prompted Fisher to have a rethink and he quickly accepted the offer to return to the Elms after just five days away.
And now he's spending money on new players instead of groceries.
Rivals Shrivenham were the first port of call, with Fisher poaching midfield playmaker Nathan Holt.
Witney's Toby Clark is expected to follow in the next 48 hours and Cinderford forward Pete Macklin could also be poised to return to the Elms after on-loan striker Scott Griffin was recalled by Cirencester.
None of the trio will be available for the tough FA Vase trip to Bristol Manor Farm tomorrow.
That gives the current batch of players one last chance to prove their worth before Fisher wields the axe.
"We needed to freshen things up a bit with some new players so that's what I've tried to do," he said.
"None of them are available Saturday so those lads that are already here have a final opportunity to stake their claim that they are good enough to stay here."
Fisher admits any chance of retaining the Hellenic Premier title is virtually gone so the Vase is now the primary target.
He added: "Didcot showed last year that a Hellenic team can win it.
"If we win on Saturday we're in the last 64, then we've only got to string a couple of results together and we've got a chance of going to Wembley.
"It's going to be tough because Bristol Manor Farm are flying but this might be our last chance of doing something this season."
Elsewhere in the First Round, Corsham are at Newton Abbot and Devizes host local rivals Pewsey Vale.
