GAZETTE & HERALD: POLICE are seeking the driver of a red Volkswagen Golf after it ploughed into the front garden of the Mallard Pub in Lyneham.

The car veered off Calne Road at about 1.30am last Thursday.

It caused an estimated £500 worth of damage to three picnic tables and also to some flowerpots.

Mike Clarke, who runs the Mallard, said the driver must have been going at quite a rate.

He said: "It must have missed the bend by the pub and ploughed into our front garden.

"It destroyed three rather expensive picnic tables and very heavy ones at that.

"They would have to have been going some to come off the road.

"We did find a bit of a wreckage.

"Certainly I would have thought the car had sustained quite a bit of damage."

Police said at the time of the incident the car was driving towards Calne.

After leaving the road, it reversed out of the garden after a number of attempts and then drove off at speed.

Parts of the vehicle were left behind, including paint flakes, model plates and headlight glass.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Wootton Bassett Police Station on (01793) 852213.
