Easy for Glos

From the archive, first published Tuesday 25th Oct 2005.

Gloucester, without suspended pair Henry Paul and Peter Richards, were too strong for Bayonne, recording an impressive 26-10 away win that underlined their status as Pool Three favourites.

Flanker Andy Hazell, scrum-half Haydn Thomas and wing Mark Foster eased Gloucester through a testing mission by scoring tries, while group rivals Toulon also won away, defeating Bucuresti 20-16.

Fly-half Shane Drahm contributed 16 points, including a try, in Worcester's 36-18 triumph against Sixways visitors Montpellier, with the Pool Five success being underpinned through a penalty try and further touchdowns from Pat Sanderson, Andy Gomarsall and 19-year-old wing Uche Oduoza.

Worcester's home and away clashes against Connacht in December already appear pivotal, and the Irish side warmed up by crushing Amatori Catania 62-17, with Keith Matthews (3), Darren Yapp (2) and Conor McPhillips (2) all claiming tries.
