In-form Chippenham go marching on

From the archive, first published Tuesday 25th Oct 2005.

CHIPPENHAM'S winning run continued with a fine 17-11 away victory at Clevedon to take them off the bottom of the table.

Two converted tries and a penalty from Gibson to Clevedon's try and two penalties were enough to seal the game for Chippenham and take a further valuable two points.

Chippenham's first try came after the forwards set up a driving maul.

John Angell picked up and went over the line for the try with Gibson adding the conversion.

Clevedon quickly replied with an unconverted try and added a penalty towards the end of the first half for a slender 8-7 at the break.

Chippenham added a second half try from full-back Dave Martin following some fine driving play from Rupert Crockett. Gibson kicked the conversion again to put the visitors back in front at 14-8.

Each side added a penalty to make the final score 17-11 in Chippenham's favour.

But despite the win, Chippenham's growing list of injuries grew.

Prop Mark Livesey was replaced by 17-year-old John Boddington who was making his first team debut.

Livesey suffered a flare-up of a recurring rib injury and hooker and try scorer, John Angell also had to be replaced by Jon Whiteman after suffering a neck injury.
