They're gr-eight Spitfires cruise

From the archive, first published Tuesday 25th Oct 2005.

Swindon Spitfires travelled to Bristol United on Sunday and were worthy winners, scoring eight goals without reply.

From the very start Spitfires played flowing football and within a minute of the game Katie Gumm's shot was fumbled by the goalkeeper into the net however the goal was disallowed for off-side.

The first goal finally came in the 17th minute when Hayley Huckin broke free of the defence and placed the ball wide of the goalkeeper into the net.

Three minutes later Cara Stacey scored her first goal of the season from a well delivered cross from Gumm.

In the second half Spitfires really took hold of the game.

Within a 20-minute spell Jody Nicholls, Zofie Stepien, Hayley Huckin and substitute Kirsty Hulse all scored.

Two late goals from Claire White and Hulse's second of the match concluded a very satisfying day for the Spitfires.

Squad: Becky Powell, Cara Stacey, Claire White, Jo Lane, Natalia Wilson, Caroline Hook, Jody Nicholls, Katie Gumm, Zofie Stepien, Mel Bristow, Hayley Huckin, Kirsty Hulse, Robyn Levett, Bev Maull.
