Our son's care was unrivalled

From the archive, first published Tuesday 25th Oct 2005.

We feel compelled to write concerning our recent experience of both the ambulance service and the care offered by the GW Hospital both of which have received complaints through the press.

On Saturday our son suffered a severe allergic reaction for which we had to call an ambulance.

This arrived within six minutes of our initial call.

The care our son then received was superb with every step being carefully explained to him (and us) as the treatment progressed.

Despite the severity of his case the paramedic was able to initiate treatment prior to the arrival of the ambulance crew just two minutes later.

The level of care and compassion showed by all three of the paramedics who dealt with our son was superb.

And all three of them handled what turned out to be a potentially life-threatening situation with considerable professionalism.

While we were in the A&E department we were again impressed with the level of one-to-one care shown to our son by all of the staff and the speed in which they dealt with him.

All of this on a Saturday night, a night we feel sure when both the ambulance service and A&E staff are pushed to the limit.

Within three hours of ringing for an ambulance our son had been admitted to a ward, in a comfortable condition, where he was shown compassion and care by the staff.

Which other country could you expect this level of care for the price we pay?

A huge thank you to everyone connected to the GWH and the ambulance service.
