From the archive, first published Thursday 20th Oct 2005.

GREEN guru Jonathon Porritt will be helping North Wiltshire District Council brush up on its environmental credentials when he spends the day in Chippenham on November 4.

District council leader Carol O'Gorman and Coun Doreen Darby won the services of Mr Porritt, co-founder and programme director of Forum For The Future, at a quiz run by the Local Government Association annual conference in Harrogate.

Mr Porritt is a leading writer, broadcaster and commentator on sustainability issues and among other posts, he is currently chairman of the UK Sustainable Development Commission and a member of the Board of the South West Regional Development Agency.

His seminar for members and senior officers will be run at the council offices, followed by a session for the council's key partner organisations. It will outline the key sustainability challenges and opportunities facing the district council in the future.

It will be run as an interactive session, ensuring members have the chance to make links between local issues and the regional and national sustainable development agenda.
