Come and cheer us all along the route

OCTOBER 14: Whether it's to cheer on the runners, help out with marshalling or hand out refreshments there is still a role for all non-runners at this year's Swindon Half Marathon.

Residents are being called on to show their support to the many who are running to boost Prospect Hospice.

Michelle Leighton, the community affairs officer for sponsors Nationwide, pictured, believes the day will be a huge success for everyone involved. "We need as many people as possible to cheer on the runners," she said.

As well as the half marathon and two fun runs there will be plenty of things for people to see and do.

There will be a small fun fair at the beginning and end of the main course. Refreshments will also be plentiful.

"The best place to stand to watch the runners will probably be on Marlborough Road where the course becomes a bit more tricky as it is uphill," said Michelle.

"This is the place that the runners are really going to need your support and it's the best thing in the world to have people cheering you on when you're at your weakest."

So come and show you care by cheering on the runners at this year's Swindon Half Marathon.

Still a chance to run for fun

The application deadline for the 2005 Swindon Half Marathon may have passed but the fun runs are still open.

So far there have been more than 700 applications for the two fun runs but many places are still available.

The multi-terrain run, which starts at 11.10am, focuses on fun and personal achievement over a 4.3mile course through Coate Water.

For something a bit easier, the family fun run involves a two-mile trek along roads and footpaths.

Applicants are able to enter on the day between 9am and 10.30am.

The multi-terrain event costs £6 a person or £5 with a Swindon card. Entry to the family fun run costs £3 or £2.50. Finishers receive a T-shirt and medal and all money goes to Prospect .
