Huge queues for furniture store's new year sale

From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Friday 2nd Jan 2004.

Wiltshire businessman Stephen Wicks and his staff and managers at his Bath furniture store Silcox, Son and Wicks are celebrating after hundreds queued for the launch of its new year sale.

People queued for 24 hours to get their hands on bargains.

Partner Stephen Wicks: "We had a feeling that we would have huge queues on our doorstep after our success last year. The first 20 people in the queue were also rewarded with free bacon butties after camping-out all night.

"We always look after our customers. We would like to make them feel as comfortable and at-home as possible."

Silcox Son and Wicks is one of the oldest businesses in Bath, owned by the same family since its formation. The company is looking to expand into Bristol next year and puts its success down to the quality of its furniture and high level of service.

The twice-yearly sales have also made the firm a household name in the south west, some customers travelling from as far away as St Ives in Cornwall.
