First task for new Explorer Scouts team

A NEW breed of Scout has been introduced to the traditional line-up of youngsters keen to do a good turn and seven Explorer Scouts have been invested for the Bradford on Avon Scout group.

The first Explorer Scouts were named at dawn on the Westbury White Horse on Sunday.

Their first task was to hike back to Bradford on Avon from Westbury which took around three hours.

At the Lock Inn, they were given a heroes welcome and an ExpoBreak of a traditional English breakfast plus the Explorers' secret ingredient ­ curried beans.

Jonathan Turner, Explorer Scout Leader, said: "You are just as likely to find one of today's Explorer Scouts taking part in a traditional scouting activity camping on a wild moor somewhere or doing something more up to date working with IT or quad biking.

"Many of the boys invested will be

taking part in the annual Ten Tors 50 mile hike around Dartmoor and Sunday's chilly conditions on the White Horse was a good opportunity to try out new equipment."
