Police inquiries centralised

From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Friday 4th Jul 2003.

SOUTH Wiltshire businesses have a new number to contact the police.

Centralisation of resources means there is now just one number for all non-emergency calls 01380 735735.

It was announced at the latest city centre management meeting that all calls would now go through to police headquarters in Devizes. Operators will pass calls on.

In situations where there is a threat to life, or immediate police action is needed, 999 is still the number to use.

It is hoped that the new system will save police time, as well as making things easier for local businesses.

A leaflet on how and when to contact the police has been produced by Wiltshire Constabulary. It is available from city centre management.
