From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Friday 4th Jul 2003.
A NEW easy-to-use website has been launched to help small and medium Wiltshire enterprises identify training needs and develop training to suit management and employees.
The free service at www.blbw-yourstaff.co.uk is provided by Business Link Berkshire and Wiltshire as a central part of its new Workforce Development Advisory Service.
The new site offers companies an online toolkit and a wide range of information related to training and personal development.
The core skills check helps companies identify which business issues could be best resolved through the development of people.
The 23 simple yes/no questions include a review of management capabilities and job skills, followed by an assessment of the skills and potential of employees.
This results in suggested courses of action, using specific training products or services. There are also links to a How Good A Director Are You? toolkit.
A comprehensive database allows companies to carry out a training provider search. This identifies names, contact numbers and e-links to colleges and contacts offering vocational training, including modern apprenticeships.
The website also offers information on all training options open to a company, including the Investors In People scheme, Free2Learn and vocational qualifications.
"The website provides companies with an opportunity to explore their training and development needs, which can be discussed and developed further with an HR Business Adviser," says workforce development manager Helena Allen.
"It also identifies access to support packages to help them overcome business issues through the development of people. It will be particularly useful to companies who do not normally have access to such support.
"This is a very practical and achievable way of tackling workforce development."
