Third KO Cup win for New Century

From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Tuesday 6th May 2003.

New Century WMC won the Sunday Knock Out Cup for the third time when they defeated AFC Gas 2-1 at Hunts Copse.

Ryan Lovgrove put them ahead in the 29th minute after a disputed free-kick and Matt Saye increased their lead after 50 minutes.

Mark Bennett headed the Gas consolation from a cross by Gary Ashford in the 89th minute.

Man-of-the-match award went to Century's Sean Terry.

A double from Doug Imrie and goals from Enzo Mazzotta and Tate Hulbert gave Juventus a 4-1 win at Tran Staff in midweek in Division 1, Adam Giles bagging the consolation for Tran Staff.

A play-off for the top spot now looms with Greyhound.

In Division 3, leaders Penhill United have completed their programme.

But Haydon Wick's title hopes were dented when they went down 6-3 to Thamesdown Nalgo in midweek.

Wanborough recorded two victories in a week. They went to Mallard on Tuesday and came away with a 4-2 win thanks to a Pete Myles double and one each for Chris Rusling and Pete Stradling, with Dave Turner and Carl Dawson scoring for Mallard.

Wanborough followed that up with a 3-2 win at High St Club for whom Kevin Traill and Gary Wilkins netted.

Phillip O'Farrell and Barry Shedden were on the scoresheet for Nationwide in their side's 2-1 home win over Coleshill in the week.

The solitary fixture in Division 4 saw Highworth Swindon Fencing beat Southbrook Inn 4-2.

Division 7 favourites Duckhams Q hit four at Blueprint without reply with strikes for Stuart Carter, James Bradfield, Ady Phillimore and John Cave-Ayland.

That was Blueprint's last game, having lost 7-2 at MCS in the week.

A Mark Jones goal enabled Deers Leap to beat Intermach 1-0.

It was Intermach's second defeat of the week, having gone down 3-1 at home to Chesters 3-1 earlier.
