Fairford eye trophy

FAIRFORD Town can finish the season with some silverware when they take on Hellenic League rivals Yate Town in the Gloucestershire Senior Trophy final tonight, writes CRAIG LYUS.

Mark Webb takes his well-rested troops to Almondsbury for the county showpiece (kick off 7.30pm).

Manager Webb has been fielding weakened sides in the run up to the final to ensure his first-choice side are fully refreshed.

The ploy probably cost Fairford fifth place in the Premier Division, but Webb is not bothered if it means taking the trophy back to Cinder Lane.

He said: "For the sake of one place in the league, it was worth giving as many lads as possible a rest.

"The lads that came in did a good job, but we'll be fielding our strongest available side against Yate."

Gareth Davies is away and Dominic Dunton misses out after injuring himself at work, but other than that Fairford will be at full strength against the Dr Martens' League hopefuls, who finished second in the Premier Division.

"I have the greatest respect for Yate and we will be underdogs," admitted Webb.

"But they won't be looking forward to playing us and hopefully we'll win that trophy."
