Gemma wins by a head!

Gemma Harris has had her hairdressing skills acknowledged with two awards.

Gemma, 17, from Pinehurst, was hailed trainee stylist of the year at a regional competition called SPAN.

And she also finished runner-up in a seasonal hairstyle competition to capture the spirit of autumn.

Gemma said: "I created a warm effect by using copper panels. It also incorporated feathers into a French plait."

About 60 trainees from across the Thames Valley area took part in the styling contest.

Gemma has worked at The JJ's Hair Group, in Crombey Street, for more than three years.

She said: "It started as a Saturday job and now I am full time. This result has affirmed my ambition to become a fully qualified stylist. I want to thank everyone for their support, especially my model Bianca Sim. We all had a great day.
