MiMi's through to the final four

From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Sunday 2nd Feb 2003.

A WILTSHIRE schoolgirl could soon be singing in front of millions at the Eurovision song contest in Latvia. MiMi, 16, has got through to the final four of the competition and will now appear in the live grand final, A Song for Europe, on BBC1 in March.

Her manager, Roger Nicholas, said this week: "We are absolutely delighted. We are really proud of her and this is absolutely fantastic.

"I really think she can gop all the way now."

The Westbury teenager, who has been taking her mock GCSE exams for the past two weeks, first came to prominence in the Starry Eyes talent contest in Trowbridge in 2001.

Organiser, Sally Boyle, said: "This is such an achivement, for MiMi and for Wiltshire and it all stemmed from Starry Eyes. We aim to give people the opportunity and MiMi has shown what you can do with it."

MiMi's song is called Ever Since That Night, written by Simon May, who wrote the theme tune to EastEnders, and John Brant, who has written for Gabrielle, Pulp and Paul Weller.

She has been working on her first album, due to be released in March, at the Music Workshop recording studio in Potterne.

As well as singing all over the country and working in the studio MiMi is taking her mock GCSEs at Matravers School, Westbury where she is an A grade student.
