Stones are south west's top historic destination

From the Amesbury Journal, first published Monday 27th Oct 2003.

STONEHENGE has topped the list of historic destinations in a new poll to find out the holiday favourites for south west tourists.

The research was conducted as part of the launch of the Future Footprints campaign which promotes sustainable tourism.

The initiative aims to show people how they can enjoy a British holiday without damaging the environment and researchers were keen to discover their top treats when they are away.

Other favourites were cream teas, walking, beaches, dolphins and pasties with Tintagel Castle in Cornwall coming second to Stonehenge in the historic site category.
