Medical equipment donated to practice

From the Amesbury Journal, first published Thursday 16th Oct 2003.

LIFE-SAVING medical equipment has been secured for Avon Valley medical practice, Upavon, with the help of fundraising projects and donations.

Beryl and Bob Rogers, of Court Farm Close, Netheravon, raised £1,420 towards a new ECG heart-monitor, and the British Heart Foundation donated half the cost, more than £1,000, towards a new defibrillator.

To raise the money, Beryl completed a ten-mile sponsored walk last November from the Netheravon surgery to the Upavon surgery, while Bob walked from Marlborough High Street to Netheravon in August.

It was Beryl's brother, Kenneth Foyle, who helped to raise the money to buy the first ECG machine for the surgery 15 years ago.

The Avon Valley practice operates over three sites, with surgeries in Upavon, Netheravon and Durrington.

Each practice will be kitted out with a new defibrillator and ECG machine, with the practice meeting the final costs.

There is still more money to be counted from fundraising by the Netheravon Working Men's Club, which hopes to raise the remainder of the cost of a new ECG machine.
