New chain of office presented to mayor

THE Mayor of Amesbury has a new chain of office, thanks to the generosity of a town councillor.

The new insignia, which cost £976.95, was generously paid for by Councillor Freda Hedge and has been inscribed with the names of former mayors.

Mrs Hedge presented Allan Peach with his new chain of office at last week's council meeting.

"I would like to offer my very grateful thanks to Freda for her very generous donation," said Mr Peach. "It is a most commendable act."
