Relaxing way to do business

From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Friday 3rd Jan 2003.

CHAMBER NEWS: BUSINESS breakfasts have become a regular event to be noted in the corporate calendar.

Whether monthly or bi-monthly or just occasional, the business breakfast has, over the past few years, become a platform for employees and their bosses to network with like-minded members of the business community.

For many, whose roles don't give them the opportunity to get out and call on their business contatcs face to face, the business breakfast provides the chance to meet clients, suppliers, colleagues and competitiors alike in relaxed surroundings.

The opportunity to tie up some business is ever present but many use the occasion to exchange introductory greeetings and business cards and to pick up informstion and advice from guest speakers.

Two main breakfast meetings in west Wiltshire are the Wessex Business Breakfast run by the Wessex Association of Chambers of Commerce and the Lloyds TSB/Pearson May Business Breakfast in association with the Wiltshire Times.

There are five meetings a year in the Lloyds TSB/Pearson May programme starting in February.

These are held at Players on the West Wilts Trading Estate at Westbury.

These breakfasts have now been taking place for more than five years and there are normally between 60 and 100 people at each event.

Anyone wanting to be added to the LLoyds TSB/Pearson May mailing list can contact Carole at Pearson May (01225) 764441.

The principle aim of the sponsors is that at each breakfast meeting, there is a speaker who will talk about business related matters and that everyone will leave focusing on at least one issue which has been discussed sometimes worried that they may have to do something urgently and on other occasions thinking "I got that right".

The Lloyds TSB/Pearson May Business Breakfast in association with the Wiltshire Times has launched its programme for 2003 which includes:

February 13  John Drinkwater, Smarterweb  hackers, virus and Internet security  making an effective plan;

April 11 Jeffrey Ligo, chief executive West Wiltshire District Council whither west Wilts?

June 13  Lee Killington  Lloyds TSB treasury  life, the universe and interest rates;

September 12  Tony Morrison and Mike Gallacher, First at Scene Training  safety first;

November 14 Sally Wills, 4t2 project management for non-project managers.
