Seminars discuss new law

CHAMBER NEWS: JOHN Taylor, chief executive of ACAS (Advisory Conciliation and Arbitration Service, is guest speaker at the Wessex Business Breakfast on January 31.

Mr Taylor will speak about the impact of the new provisions of the Employment Act 2002 which comes into effect from April 2003.

The event, which is sponsored by Vodafone, starts at 7.45am at Cumberwell Park Golf Club, Bradford on Avon and costs £9 per person.

Three seminars are also being arranged by the Wessex Association of chambers of Commerce and Business Link Berkshire and Wiltshire to bring employers up-to-date with the latest developments in the Act.

Malcolm Gregory, of solicitors Withy King, will highlight the effects, which include rights of working parents, dispute resolution in the workplace, fixed term work and flexible working.

The seminar, sponsored by recruitment firm PSBStaffsign, is to be hosted by Trowbridge Chamber of Commerce at the Civic Hall on February 6, (7.45am). It is free to members and £5 for non-members.

Two similar lunchtime events have been arranged, one in Devizes on January 28 and the other in Chippenham on February 18.
