Nationwide redesign makes an entrance

From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Friday 3rd Jan 2003.

NATIONWIDE has unveiled its new entrance which provides visitors with a striking first impression of its Swindon headquarters.

The improved entrance at Nationwide House gives much improved disabled access and provides shelter from the elements.

Contractors involved included designers Bickerdike Allen Partners, with construction by Pearce and Mace who were the project managers.

Nationwide spokesman Steve Cowdry said there were a number of reasons for the redesign.

"Access and the south-westerly aspect of the entrance meant that the reception area suffered from strong winds blowing through the entrance.

"While the sliding doors of the old entrance were regularly staggered to minimise the wind tunnel effect, both the reception and Croft branch were unpleasant working environments during periods of bad weather. "
